Online Press pack
Hello and welcome to my online press-pack, this will give you a bit of backround information on who I am and what I do and where I’ve been doing it.
My real name is Michael Dryburgh and I started playing around with a loop pedal in early 2008. I had this idea to create a one man show using multiple instruments to create ¬†different styles of music that I like. The way I see things if you’re into an eclectic range of music then there’s no reason you can’t play a gig that expresses that. ¬†I play guitar, bass, beatbox, trigger samples and play glockenspiel in my sets to create anything from acoustic singer song-writer style numbers to funk and hip hop.
I’m essentially a modern day one man band. I create all of my loops live on stage.
Since 2008 I have played several shows all over the uk in some great places ranging from headlining Tamworth Music Festival and being a finalist in the Boss Loopstation Championships in London to playing amongst some of the West Midlands best acts at venues like The Rainbow, Adam & Eve, The Hare & Hounds and The Leamington Assembly , opening for acts such as:
Here are some testimonials and reviews from venues and promoters I have worked with.
“Happily Mr Smiley is indeed ‘an expert in playing with himself’ and delivered an impressive set of organically self built tunes that was as enjoyable to watch as it was to listen to”
“Smileymic is like a rather cheerful car crash between de la soul, ben folds five, dj shadow and the foo fighters albeit with less people, pianos or serious injuries…”
Colin Brown of Driven Like The Snow.
“Smileymic has played two events for us here at the SnowDome to date. We have further bookings with him and he is always guaranteed to get the crowd going with his unique and uplifting style. Smileymic is a total professional and it‚Äôs a pleasure working with him. After our 15th Aniversary event back in April, I had people asking me about him for weeks.”
Isabelle Chadbourne. Marketing manager for Tamworth Snowdome.
“Smileymic came to Milton Keynes to play at my snowboard event last November. He was a great act to work with, very organised and performed really well! His act was something different compared to all the other music acts that night but fitted in really well and went down a storm with the party troops. Cant wait to have him back again for the event this summer.”
Rosie Thurston. Organiser of the Pink Sessions snowboard event raising money for breast cancer.
“After watching Smileymic at Tamworth Battle of the bands - I had to book him!
Not only is he an absolute pleasure to talk to and deal with but he is a true professional. His charismatic performance is a real eye catcher and one that keeps the crowds glued to the stage!
100% Mike is on our to book list for future events”
Ben Croft. Promoter for Spitfire events in Staffordshire
“Smileymic¬†was up next and showed us what a real one man band looks like with his first gig in Birmingham. Easily switching up styles from acoustic layers, to star wars, culminating in a prize winning sugar hill gang remix, Smiley is one face you need to keep an eye on (and a thoroughly lovely bloke)”
